UFC Lightweight rankings

Rankings for the most electric division in the promotion were released a few days ago there were very minimal surprises in the latest rankings.

It’s no surprise that Michael Chandler is debuting as the number 4 ranked lightweight cementing his right to being a fight away from competing for the championship.

Dustin Poirier also deservedly went ahead of Justin Gaethje in the rankings to secure that number one contender spot after a dominant performance this past weekend. While Charles Oliveira has maintained his third spot in the division as he waits to find out his fate.

The only surprise comes in the fact that Tony Ferguson is ranked above Conor McGregor maybe he is being rewarded for not taking any time off in the last two years. That said the back-to-back losses he has suffered should have seen him drop further.

Dan Hooker has dropped down two spots to number 8 in the division and he would need to work hard to get back to the top after suffering an early knockout versus Chandler.

The division looks poised to present us with a superb Grand Prix that could last well into 2022 as we see all the top athletes compete against each other for the championship.

When one looks at the rankings it should be noted that there is an unranked competitor whose name has been mentioned by three of the top six as a potential opponent for one reason or another. That man is Nate Diaz, Poirier and McGregor mentioned him straight after their fights. Justin Gaethje during an interview with @bokamotoESPN this week mentioned Nate Diaz as well.

Thrilling times lie ahead for fight fans in this division, with and without Khabib Nurmagomedov.
