We are enjoying a goal fest in the Premier League, it is such a shame there no fans in attendance to add to the fantastic goal mouth action we are witnessing.
Leicester were the peach of the lot as they demolished Manchester City 5-2. Chelsea came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with West Brom, while Manchester United edged Brighton in a 3-2 thriller that ended in controversial fashion. the biggest win saw West Ham beat Wolves 4-0. Everton continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace and Leeds beat Sheffield United 1-0 in the Yorkshire derby. Southampton beat Burnley 1-0 and Tottenham drew 1-1 with Newcastle. Finally, Liverpool whaloped a meek Arsenal 3-1, while Aston Villa added pressure on Scott Parker and his Fulham side as they lost another game.
Here is my team of the week – have a read and feel free to disagree below:
GK – Darlow
Without Darlow in goal, Newcastle would not have been in a position to rescue a point at the death at Tottenham. Goalkeeping heroics of Karl Darlow who is the Magpies’ number two made 11 saves to his name.
RB – Bednarek
Bednarek played a critical role in assisting his side to maintain a clean sheet, his whole team put in noteworthy performances, but he stood head and shoulders above the rest. He had eight aerial duels and thirteen clearances on the day that is worth a spot in any team of the week side.
CB – Ogbonna
He was immense in defence versus Wolves as the Italian defender impeccably marshalled the Hammers’ backline. He was there to cover for his team-mates when the game called for it, he was solid in the air and was a constant threat from dead-ball situations.
CB – Mings
He was outstanding last night as he helped keep a struggling Fulham at bay. He managed to get himself in on the goal mouth action as he scored Villa’s third.
LB – Robertson
After a horrible mistake, the Scotsman refused to let that get to him as he went on to score the go-ahead goal and assist Liverpool to claiming all three points versus Arsenal.
CDM – Fabinho
Another masterclass from the Brazilian who last week was asked to play in central defence. As Arsenal looked to wait to play from the back and look to find Aubameyang but Fabinho was not having any of that as he stepped in to stop Arsenal from stitching passes together. His numbers were just as amazing, 94% pass accuracy, 1 chance created, 8/9 duels won and 3 interceptions. Hats off to him
RCM – McGinn
He got two assists in the first fifteen minutes that put Villa well on their way to winning a crucial game. He was also good on the ball as he attempted some crucial passes that could have seen Villa score more.
LCM – Rodriguez
One player who has made my team of the week three weeks in a row. Everton’s success seems to be tied into James’ mercurial form, he secured two assists that helped his team secure the win. Everton look good so far and so does James.
CAM – Mount
He scored the goal that began the come back for Chelsea, the Englishman was also a busy body as he wanted to create more goals for his side. He showed how important he will be for Chelsea this season as they find themselves.
CF – Vardy
Jamie Vardy made his Premier League debut as a 27-year-old, since then he has gone on to score 108 goals. He scored a hat-trick against the number one title contenders. Need I say more?
CF – Mane
The way Liverpool equalised after Arsenal got lucky was the stuff that we become to expect from Liverpool. Mane started the Liverpool come back and was a threat every time he had the ball, he didn’t play the full ninety minutes but he yet again showed why he is the best player in the league.
