NFL picks 2020, Week 1

The Panel of Fans gives the nod to the Chiefs, Ravens, Titans, and Raiders to get Ws in the opening weekend.

The National Football League is back, and boy does it look to entertain in its first week back. It was touch and go for most of the time if we would have gotten to this point or not but we sure are glad that it is all systems go.

As was the case last season Sports Hype was running a season-long prediction league made up of a panel of six fans, a Zimbabwean two-dollar coin and a guest expert from the many top NFL publications. We have subbed out last season’s champion the “Guest Expert” the two-dollar coin and we have introduced Wes and Simba in their place.

For those who were following closely, the table looked like this after 17 weeks of predictions:

NFL Predictions Season Overall
Guest Expert 165-93
Tashinga 161-97
Philani 161-97
Tawanda 161-97
Peter 160-98
Wayne 159-99
Garnet 158-100
$2 coin 138-120

In Week 1 my team to watch will be the New England Patriots. The Patriots have lost Tom Brady to sunny Miami, and in his place steps in Cam Newton. It will be interesting to see how Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels and Cam Newton get the offense rolling which was substandard for the majority of 2019. Even though many feel the Patriots should roll over the Dolphins, it is the how that brings all the intrigue in this one.

The game of the week, Chiefs v Texans. Mahomes vs Watson is always must-see television. But with the way the Texans imploded in the playoffs versus the same opposition there may be some revenge on their minds. The Chiefs have one of the best rosters in the league and the Texans somewhat downgraded on offense by letting DeAndre Hopkins leave for Arizona, his place was filled by some exciting options but without a preseason how will they fair against the Champions?

Will there be any big surprises this week?
