Thank you, Kobe Bryant

Sports Hype joins millions across the globe to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant, who met his untimely and devastating death in a helicopter accident on Sunday. His 13-year-old daughter fondly known as Gigi along with seven others including a family of three lost their lives too. Los Angeles authorities have confirmed that it will take a few days to recover the remains of the deceased, there is an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Kobe Bryant’s sporting legacy

Drafted to the N.B.A. directly out of high school in 1996, Bryant was named an All-Star in 18 of his 20 seasons for the Lakers and helped lead the team to five championships.

Kobe Bryant scored 33,643 points, won 7,047 rebounds and passed off 6,306 assists over 20-year NBA career.

He has one of the most storied careers of any human to have laced up and shot the ball at a basket in the world. His career gave birth to numerous NBA superstars as he inspired many to play the game. His Mamba Mentality is a moniker that has been adopted by many in sports outside of basketball, business and life in general. Kobe Bryant was invested in spreading the message of the Mamba Mentality, he preached the principles of being in control of one’s destiny. He believed in the relentless pursuit of victory in any facet of life, being greater than your job, your day to day, and whatever you believe your purpose is in life.

Kobe Bryant’s on-court exploits inspired two generations worldwide, his intent was to influence a whole new generation with his work off the court, the production company Granit Studios he had recently established. In 2018, a movie produced by Granit Studios “Dear Basketball” won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Granit Studios was modelled around Kobe Bryant as a person as their stories aim to entertain, by bringing education and inspiration together.

We were all touched by Kobe Bryant in one way or another, we were all motivated by Kobe Bryant in one way or another, and above all he inspired many worldwide. His was a life well lived. Thank you, Kobe Bryant and goodbye. Rest in Power.
